Once you have agreed a price and specification, logistics is what stands between you and your jute. The good news: it is well-trodden ground. Bangladesh exports jute to every continent, and a capable manufacturer handles most of the complexity for you. This guide explains the moving parts so you know what to expect.

Bangladesh's two main export ports

Most jute leaves through Chittagong (Chattogram) Port — the country's principal container gateway, handling the large majority of seaborne trade. Mongla Port, closer to the Khulna jute belt, serves as a secondary option for certain destinations and cargo types. Your supplier will advise which port suits your routing.

Transit times to key markets

Approximate sea transit times from Bangladesh (routing-dependent).
DestinationTypical transit
China10–15 days
Turkey (Mersin/Istanbul)15–20 days
Morocco18–25 days
Belgium / Northern Europe20–30 days
RussiaVaries by routing

These are sea-transit estimates only. Add production lead time, and confirm the live schedule with your supplier before you commit to a delivery date.

Container types used for jute

  • 20ft containers — common for heavier, denser cargo like baled raw fiber
  • 40ft containers — common for higher-volume yarn, hessian and bags
  • Break-bulk — occasionally used for very large or non-containerised consignments

Jute is packed in export-standard bales or cartons, clearly marked, to maximise container utilisation and protect the goods in transit.

Freight, Incoterms and who pays

Your Incoterm decides who arranges and pays for freight. Under FOB you handle main freight from the loading port; under CFR or CIF the seller arranges it to your destination port. We explain the trade-offs in the import guide.

Export documentation

A complete document set is what makes customs clearance painless: Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Bill of Lading, Certificate of Origin (Bangladesh) and Phytosanitary Certificate, plus quality and fumigation certificates on request.

How Wahab Jute Mills manages logistics

Our in-house export team owns booking, documentation and on-time loading, so distance never becomes a risk for our buyers. See the full workflow on our export process page.

Tips for first-time importers

  1. Agree the Incoterm early — it shapes your cost and responsibilities.
  2. Confirm production lead time on top of transit time.
  3. Line up your customs broker before the goods sail.
  4. Keep the document set complete and consistent with the contract.
